Blackburn Rovers have been linked with a move for Wayne Rooney amid early pressure on manager Valerien Ismael.

Blackburn Rovers have seen their play-off hopes fade into nothingness over recent months amid a dismal start to the tenure of new boss Valerien Ismael.

The Frenchman finally got off the mark in his eighth outing last Saturday, overseeing a 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Luton Town. However, two draws and five defeats before then have marked a thoroughly disappointing first month-and-a-half at Ewood Park.

The Rovers faithful have been ramping up calls for change at the top of the club in recent weeks, but it is now claimed that they have one man in mind amid early pressure on Ismael.

According to talkSPORT, Wayne Rooney would be a contender for the Blackburn Rovers job if they were to part ways with Ismael early.

It is said that Ismael is ‘already under pressure’ in Lancashire, and Cheshire-based Rooney would be a contender for the position if it became available.

The 39-year-old is keen on returning to the dugout in the future having struggled to make a positive impression in posts at Derby County, D.C. United, Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle to date.
