'Could be punished' – QPR vs Burnley prediction: The72

24/04/2025 09:25
QPR take on Burnley at Loftus Road this weekend in their upcoming Championship clash.
QPR have already preserved their second tier status for next season. The Hoops are sat in 15th place in the table.
They have two fixtures left to play as they look to end this campaign on a high. The London outfit will be relieved that they aren’t fighting for their lives right now.
Marti Cifuentes managed to drag them away from danger earlier this term. The R’s were beaten 2-1 by Swansea City at home last time out.
Burnley have secured their return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. They beat Sheffield United 2-1 on Easter Monday to seal their promotion after two goals by Josh Brownhill.
Scott Parker’s side now have their sights set on winning the title. They are level on points with Leeds United but their goal difference is worse.
The Clarets were relegated last year along with Sheffield United and Burnley. Parker was then brought in as their manager after Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Harry Mail
“QPR have nothing to play for and that showed against Swansea City. They are already safe and it is all about next season now for the Hoops.
“The Rs can’t afford to put their feet up yet though and will need to be at their best against Burnley here. If not, they could be punished badly.
“The Clarets will be fired up after sealing their promotion and still have the title to play for as they look to pip Leeds United to top spot.
“Scott Parker’s side have threats all over the pitch and have a rock solid defence. If they show up, they should have too much for their upcoming opponents.”
Prediction: QPR 0-2 Burnley
James Ray
“QPR are heading for a mid-table finish with nothing left to play for while Burnley have achieved their ultimate goal of promotion. The goalposts shift for the Clarets now though, with the title firmly in their sights.
“I can see them picking up a valuable three points in their bid to finish top of the pile too.
“There’s a bit of uncertainty heading into the summer at Loftus Road amid recent speculation and that could make for a slightly uneasy atmosphere at Loftus Road. If there’s a side who can capitalise on that, it is Parker’s Burnley.
“I’ll say this ends in a 2-0 away win.”
Prediction: QPR 0-2 Burnley
