Leeds United owe Werder Bremen another £1m for Ilia Gruev after their promotion to the Premier League, Clemens Fritz has told Bild.

Leeds United are heading up to the Premier League after seeing promotion sealed on Easter Monday. LUFC rise from the Championship at the second time of asking following play-off final heartbreak last year.

A rampant win over Stoke City meant the Whites would be promoted if Sheffield United failed to win at Burnley, and with the Clarets triumphing, both them and Daniel Farke’s side have booked their top-right return.

The focus is now on winning the Championship title, but attention has also switched to transfer plans for the summer. However, before focusing on new players, Leeds United have promotion bonuses to settle.

Reports revealed players such as Joel Piroe, Ao Tanaka and Largie Ramazani’s deals included clauses that would see LUFC make extra payments to selling clubs in the event of promotion. Now, Werder Bremen chief Clemens Fritz has confirmed they stand to receive a bonus through the deal for Ilia Gruev too.

He made the revelation while speaking to Bild, with a sum of around £1m now owed to the Bundesliga outfit by the Yorkshire giants.
