Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough meet in the Championship on Easter Monday with the visitors looking for a valuable win.

Sheffield Wednesday come into the clash with Middlesbrough in dismal form. SWFC are ending a turbulent season on a poor note, having gone six without a win.

They’ve lost four games in that run without scoring, most recently being beaten 2-0 by Stoke City. It was a sorry display from the Owls and prompted some stern words from manager Danny Rohl, who said they could be in a relegation battle next season if they don’t have a good summer window.

Wednesday are now 15th in the Championship table but with 10 points between them and the bottom three, there is no threat of relegation.

As for Middlesbrough, they make the trip to Sheffield Wednesday off the back of an important late win over Plymouth Argyle. Tommy Conway was deemed to have been felled in the box and converted a late penalty.

With play-off rivals Bristol City and Coventry City both winning, it was crucial that Boro took all three points. They remain three points behind the Sky Blues and four off the Robins with three games left to play.

Michael Carrick’s side had lost back-to-back games before the Pilgrims triumph too, being defeated 1-0 by both Leeds United and Millwall.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“Safe to say it has gone sour at Sheffield Wednesday over recent weeks. The vitriol over delayed wages has bled into Danny Rohl’s frustrations, which seemed to reach a high in the wake of the Stoke City loss.

“Some of the reaction from fans has perhaps been a little strong, but it doesn’t bode well for his SWFC future amid top club links. It opens the door for Middlesbrough to pick up another valuable win in the promotion fight though.

“Boro might have rode their luck a bit against Plymouth but for Carrick and co, all that matters is getting three points on the board. I can see them doing so again here against a struggling Wednesday side.”

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Middlesbrough

“It all seems to have fallen apart for Sheffield Wednesday recently. Rohl made some damning comments on Friday after their defeat, which certainly hasn’t helped morale around the club.

Middlesbrough meanwhile got away with one after that dubious penalty against Plymouth. They will definitely take another scrappy win here though as they fight for the play-offs.

“I think they will get one too. SWFC’s form is awful and Boro just need to keep getting three points anyway they can.”

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Middlesbrough
