Sheffield United have been backed to return to winning ways against Cardiff City on Friday by former EFL player Sam Parkin.

The Blades have slipped down to 3rd in the table behind Leeds United and Burnley. They are now five points off the top two with only four fixtures left to play before the end of the season.

Former Luton Town and Ipswich Town man Parkin has said on the Benjamin Bloom YouTube channel: “I don’t see Sheffield United dropping points against Cardiff at home. Maybe not the best performance but getting the points. 2-0.”

Bloom said: “Surely they’ve got to bounce back haven’t they? Cardiff are in a world of trouble down at the bottom. I mean it would be unprecedented wouldn’t it? A zero point week (if Sheffield United lose again).”

Parkin replied: “The gap now (to Leeds United and Burnley) means they have to win this game and then go to the shoot-out against Burnley and go for it which is brilliant for everyone watching on. They have to win this game first and foremost.”

Sheffield United promotion latest

Sheffield United’s fate is now out of their hands after their recent downturn in results. SUFC need to pick up three points against Cardiff City to build their confidence back up.

The Blades looked well on their way to securing an immediate promotion back to the Premier League. They were relegated from the top flight last year after finishing in the bottom three with Luton Town and Burnley.

However, it is looking increasingly likely that they will have to go through the play-offs this year unless they are able to claw themselves back into the top two. Leeds United and Burnley are both looking strong at the moment and will be tough to catch up with now with the clock ticking.

What now for Sheffield United?

Sheffield United take on a Cardiff City team who are fighting for their lives at the bottom. They are in the bottom three with Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town.

It has been a tough term for the Bluebirds. They turned to Omer Riza as their manager last year following their decision to sack Erol Bulut.

The Welsh outfit have struggled for consistency though and are staring down the barrel of League One football unless they can start picking up wins. They are a point from safety behind Derby County and were beaten 1-0 at home to Stoke City last time out.
