Hull City boss Ruben Selles has said he has ‘no idea’ what is going on with Oscar Zambrano.

Hull City are patiently waiting to learn the outcome of his appeal to have his doping ban reduced. His case was heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne last month.

Zambrano, 20, joined the Tigers on loan from L.D.U. Quito last summer. He made eight appearances for the East Yorkshire outfit in all competitions under their former manager Tim Walter and scored one goal against Cardiff City.

In this latest update regarding his situation, Selles has said, as per BBC Humberside Sport on X: “I am going to be very clear and then you can answer everyone who has asked. I have no idea what is going on with Oscar Zambrano. He’s not playing for us and I don’t expect him until the end of the season. If there’s anything, myself and the club will communicate. Until that moment, there is nothing to say really.”

Hull City are placed in 21st in the Championship table with four fixtures left to play after their 1-1 draw with Coventry City on Monday night. They are three points above the bottom three.

Hull City situation regarding Oscar Zambrano latest

It is still up in the air in regards to what is happening with Zambrano. Hull City will have to make do without him for the time being and as Selles alluded to, he isn’t expected to play anytime soon.

The Tigers brought him in late year to boost their midfield department. He was on the radar of Luton Town and AFC Bournemouth in January 2024 and has also been scouted by Manchester United and Brighton and Hove Albion, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The Ecuador youth international played for Colorados Jaipadida and América de Quito before linking up with L.D.U Quito. He then broke into their first-team and has played 58 games in all competitions to date, scoring once.

What now for Hull City?

Hull City’s immediate focus is on avoiding relegation to League One. They are back in action on Friday with an away trip to Swansea City.

The Tigers play Preston North End at home on Monday. They then finish this term with games against Derby County and Portsmouth.

In regards to Zambrano, it is yet to be known how long his ban will be. Speaking on the The 1904 Club on YouTube back in November, HullLive reporter Barry Cooper said: “As I understand it, he will remain at Hull City. Under the terms of his loan agreement, he will remain at Hull City and will remain on the pay roll. He just won’t be able to play.”
