Plymouth Argyle loan man Muhamed Tijani has confirmed he would be interested in staying permanently if they achieve survival this season.

Plymouth Argyle have had a challenging season and with four games left, they’re fighting for their Championship status. Despite looking destined for the drop on several occasions, PAFC have picked up some big results to keep themselves in with a chance of a great escape.

Their most recent surprise triumph came last weekend, defeating Sheffield United 2-1 on home turf. Talisman Ryan Hardie scored the first before loan man Muhamed Tijani struck a fine winner at the death.

It was just Tijani’s second goal for the Pilgrims since joining on loan last summer. It has been an injury-hit stint at Home Park for the Nigerian, who has been limited to just 10 appearances, and his impact has been fairly limited in many of those outings.

However, his fine goal against the Blades shows he could have a big say in the survival fight yet, and if Plymouth Argyle pull off a shock escape, Tijani has his eyes on a permanent stay with the Pilgrims.

Speaking with Plymouth Live, the PAFC loan man was asked if he had any interest in staying put on the south coast. He replied:

“Yeah, I have. If we stay up, I have so much interest in staying.

“Everyone here is just like family. The players, the coaches, the manager as well. They made me feel like one of them. And the fans as well, they are amazing.”

Who plays at Elland Road?

A future at PAFC?

As a tall and physical striker, Tijani is certainly the right fit for the play style of Plymouth Argyle boss Miron Muslic. If a permanent deal is to be weighed up, that will certainly come under consideration.

However, many will point towards his troubling injury problems this season as a result to look elsewhere in the potential hunt for a new striker. Due to various injury issues, the Slavia Prague loanee has only been in the squad for 13 of 42 Championship games to date, playing in only nine and starting one.

That said though, if Tijani can come up with more big moments over the final games like the one in the Sheffield United win, it won’t take long for fans to be swayed towards a potential long-term deal.

Tijani’s role in the survival fight

As highlighted before, Tijani is a good fit for Muslic’s setup. He’s a powerful and physical striker the likes of Ryan Hardie and Callum Wright can play off.

With Hardie starring in a slightly deeper role under Muslic, no one has really been able to make the striker spot their own. Mustapha Bundu and Michael Obafemi have both been deployed there and while the former has found success going forward, some would argue he is better in a role similar to Hardie’s.

It could open the door for Tijani, now fit again, to stake a claim for the starting berth over the final four games of the season.
