Derby County are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the Championship table but have a better chance after some improved form.

Derby County sit 21st in the Championship table, just a point above the drop with four games left. DCFC drew 2-2 with Portsmouth last weekend while relegation rivals Cardiff City suffered a damaging defeat against Stoke City.

It feels as though there is momentum behind the Rams but there remains time for it all to change. John Eustace will be determined to pick up big win in a huge clash with Luton Town this Friday.

There have been a while host of new players brought to the club over the course of the 2024/25 campaign but if they suffer relegation, many will feel Derby County did not recruit strongly enough.

Now, some intriguing figures over the Rams’ expenditure on agent fees have emerged from the FA…

How do Derby County’s agent fees compare to Championship rivals?

As relayed by journalist Henry Winter, Championship clubs spent a combined total of £63m on agent fees for February 2024 to February 2025.

Of this sizeable total, Derby County make up just £707,077 of it.

The DCFC agent fee expenditure is the third-lowest in the league. Only fellow promoted sides Portsmouth (£696,189) and Oxford United (£572,808) spent less than the Rams. Sheffield Wednesday came in at a fairly similar £797,697, and Preston North End spent £953,802.

Those sides listed above were the only ones to spend less than £1m on agent fees. Bottom side Plymouth Argyle spent more than Derby County at a little over £1m, while relegation rivals Cardiff City (£2,383,264), Luton Town (£2,424,713) and Hull City (£3,179,361) all spent comfortably more too.

Leeds United spent a massive £18,836,447.

The Rams’ spending power

Of course, while these figures are not directly representative of how much clubs have spent on wider transfer deals, but it is an insight into the spending power these sides posses.

Perhaps as to be expected, that of promoted trio Derby County, Oxford United and Portsmouth is lesser. All three sides have worked well to recruit extensively though, with DCFC seeing a sizeable winter deal for Sondre Langas enabled by Eiran Cashin’s sale.

Who plays at Elland Road?

Should the Rams stay up, their agent fee payments and transfer expenditure on the whole would likely grow a fair amount.

There remains plenty to be decided on the pitch before eyes can turn to the summer budget at DCFC though.
