QPR boss Marti Cifuentes could leave the club this summer after a fallout with chief executive Christian Nourry, according to The Sun.
QPR have shown signs of promise for spells of this season this season, but they are middling out towards the end of the campaign and now sit 15th in the Championship table.
One of the Rs’ biggest assets at the moment is their boss Marti Cifuentes. The Spaniard joined from Hammarby in November 2023 and did a fine job keeping the Hoops in the division last season, and looked to push on this time around.
Now though, Cifuentes could reportedly quit the club after just a year and a half.
That is according to The Sun, who state that the Spaniard has had a falling out with chief executive Christian Nourry.
The QPR boss is unhappy with the direction of the club under Nourry and several decisions have gone against him. These include having a remote head of performance and being refused a set-piece coach.
He also has not had much of a say on transfers since his arrival, leading to some costly signings struggling to make a telling impact in West London.
Other Championship clubs keen?
Cifuentes was heavily linked with a move away from QPR last summer. Sunderland were said to be keen on his services before they opted to appoint Lorient boss Regis Le Bris.
Interest in Cifuentes is likely once again this summer. Jobs at the highly ambitious Norwich City and also play-off chasers West Brom have already become available before the season has even finished.
After seeing approaches for him turned away last summer, Cifuentes would have an easier time looking for work if he were unattached. Should another club come knocking, that could easily push him to force QPR’s hand.
Can QPR afford to let him go?
QPR are becoming stagnant in the Championship as each season goes by. In the 10 seasons since their relegation from the Premier League, they have finished in the top half just once.
With Cifuentes, it looked like they had the perfect coach to help them push on. However, as this season comes to a close, they have come up short again and misdirection from the hierarchy may well see him set sights on a move elsewhere.
There is no hiding that an exit would make for a huge blow to the Rs ahead of the summer, and they would need to act quickly to ensure it does not disrupt their plans for next season.
