Congrats!

Cole Palmer has already won more individual awards than I care to count for his excellence last season, but here's another one: the Wythenshawe Wonder has been named the England national football team (men's) Player of the Year for 2023-24!

Palmer got the award despite starting just twice in the nine appearances he's made for England since his debut last November. He has scored twice during that span, including in the final of Euro 2024, which England would go on to lose.

The 21-year-old is the first Chelsea player to win this award since Ashley Cole in 2010, and the third Chelsea player overall since its inception in 2003. Frank Lampard won it two years in a row, in 2004 and 2005, just as Bukayo Saka had the last two seasons, in 2021-22 and 20222-23.

Congrats, Cole!

Palmer's looking to earn his 10th senior cap during the current international break, after being forced to withdraw due to injury last month.

His award for Player of the Year was, of course, presented to him in a cryochamber. Get it, because it's cold? Maybe it's time to switch up the celly; this one's jumped the shark.
