Crazy data shows Chelsea outlier must come back to Stamford Bridge to show unique skills this summer

With the international break upon us, it's a nice chance to play around with some stats from the players doing well this season.

Few players on Chelsea's books are having a breakout 12 months bigger than Andrey Santos, and his "box to box" style combining goals and tackles is not replicated by anyone else in Europe's top 5 leagues this season.

Chelsea commentator Kieran Doyle plotted a chart which shows how much of an outlier Santos is to combine those two qualities at a very high level. Just look how much of an island the former Vasco man is:

It's not just those two simple metrics proving the 20 year old has a phenomenal future ahead of him. Every report you hear about his personality and his work rate reinforce the idea that he's cut out for the very top, regardless of a false start at Nottingham Forest a year ago.

He is developing into a true all rounder, and feels ready for another crack at the Premier League sooner rather than later.

Santos' future is particularly interesting, even among Chelsea players. His talent is massive, he's been able to prove it pretty consistently through a tumultuous couple of years since joining the club, yet there's not yet a natural space for him in the first team squad.

If he keeps putting up numbers like this for the rest of the season one imagines he would simply have to be given a first team chance next year – but that will in terms precipitate the sales or loans of some pretty big name players with decent fees attached to them.

It still feels like the Brazilian is somehow doing even better than those who bought him could have hoped.
