Building up that positive goal difference!

The barrage of shots from Chelsea in the first 10 minutes of the match were a good of an indicator of what would actually take place with the team in the first half. That was the case even after a Lauren James goal was dismissed due to a Katrine Veje apparent head injury from clashing with a teammate in the box, where the Blues did lose a bit of their momentum and let the hosts at Selhurst Park grow a bit more comfortable in the match.

Crystal Palace don't have as much quality as we have upfront, but they were trying to make up for it with a lot of fight and several attempts to hit us back on counters whenever we were close to making any kind of mistakes. However it was on a mistake of their own that we'd get our opening goal via Aggie Beever-Jones.

The second half started out pretty much like the first, with Chelsea dominating and Palace doing their best to close down spaces at the back. That did give us a few corner kicks and in the first one of the half, Lucy Bronze got the rebound and scored a screamer of a first ever Chelsea goal.

Bompastor knows that goal difference is key in a league that only gets more competitive each season. Hence the introduction of Mayra Ramírez to the pitch, which made things a lot easier for us upfront.

Only four minutes after her introduction, she assisted Lauren James for her first goal of the season.

Ramírez's presence in the box made things much harder for Palace's well-drilled defenders, opening up spaces that weren't really there in the first half. And the goals kept coming, with Guro Reiten getting herself in the scoreboard.

We were even able to score from a dead ball situation, with Macario assisting Björn for the easiest goal of the season thus far.

There was still room for more from Guro, as she scored our sixth goal from a failed clearance by a Crystal Palace player in her own box.

And Macario would also not miss a great opportunity to kick-off her tally going this season.

Carefree!

  • Lauren James back in the starting lineup, with Aggie Beever-Jones leading the attacking line.
  • This Chelsea team don't look as dominant as they did under Emma Hayes, which is to be expected with a new head coach in place. At this point we can only hope it's a case of being patient with Bompastor as she works out the kinks of being the Blues' boss.
  • A very different second half from Chelsea upfront, largely thanks to Mayra Ramírez. A true gem of a striker.
  • Next up: Manchester United at home in the Women's Super League.
  • KTBFFH!
