John Obi Mikel has revealed the business he believes Chelsea might do in the summer transfer window, with the Blues expected to be quiet in January.

Chelsea have made a good start to the season under Enzo Maresca and currently sit fourth, three points ahead of Newcastle in fifth.

The Blues are on course to qualify for the Champions League, but are on a run of three games without a win, and have lost back to back games against Fulham and Ipswich, which has seen the gap to fifth close.

Mikel on Chelsea summer plans

The Blues haven't been shy to spend money under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, and they have broken the British transfer record twice, with the squad being totally rebuilt over the last couple of years.

However, over the summer the Blues were a lot more opportunistic in the market with the signings they made, with Pedro Neto the most expensive acquisition at £51.4m.

Chelsea are expected to be quiet in the January window.

There are still seemingly a number of key areas in the squad which need strengthening, and that seems mad given the amount of money that's been spent.

Chelsea are known to be looking for a centre back, whilst Enzo Maresca is keen to add a striker to the squad to compete with Nicolas Jackson and he's known to be a fan of Liam Delap.

Mikel feels the club will be quiet in January, which is the expectation, but the former Blue has predicted what the club might do in the summer.

"In the summer, I think we might see a striker, goalkeeper, maybe another midfielder and defender. In January; I think we're quiet," he told his Obi One Podcast.

It's true the goalkeeping situation isn't ideal despite signing a number of keepers in recent windows, whilst it's clear an alternative to Jackson is needed given Christopher Nkunku as a number nine just doesn't work.

Chelsea will certainly have a list of targets in mind and it will be interesting to see what players the club target and whether they bring forward any business that was planned for the summer to January.
