Joe Cole compares Chelsea's B-team to Jose Mourinho's intense squad competition

This week has been all about Chelsea's B team, who look to be really getting into gear now. After battering Barrow last week they faced a tougher test against Gent in the Europa Conference League – and beat them comfortably too.

That second string is really establishing itself and the competition for places in the first team is driving them on to great things. On the London is Blue podcast they discussed this state of affairs and how positive it was for the whole club.

They looked back to a chat with Joe Cole years ago where he spoke about how the competition at Chelsea during his time had pushed everyone to a high level. Cole himself had long periods out of the team with the likes of Damien Duff and Arjen Robben putting pressure on him.

We're all hoping we're entering a new era of that.
