Be careful

Chelsea backup goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen was taken off at halftime in Denmark's 2-0 win over Serbia in a Euro U21 qualifier on Tuesday, and unfortunately it sounds like the reason for his early exit was an injury ... or at least an injury scare.

Denmark U21 manager Steffen Højer tried to play it down afterwards, as managers often like to do, but reports in Denmark (via Sport Witness) speak of the young goalkeeper getting hurt in a collision with an opposing player and claiming that he was having "problems with his head". Sounds like a concussion to me!

Football loves nothing more than to play down a head injury, even in 2024.

"He got hit down there and wasn't quite at his best. We decided to take him out, so he didn't have to go back to Chelsea with something or other.

"I don't know how he's doing. But I don't think it's something that people should be worried about. We just didn't want to take any chances."

There are reports floating about of Jörgensen possibly suffering some problems with his vision as part of this incident as well. Such problems are not uncommon with head trauma.

So, hopefully we take this as seriously as it needs to be taken now that everyone's reconvening at Cobham. While it would be unfortunate for Jörgensen to miss time, especially with plenty of midweek European and Cup action on tap for him, his health and well-being should outweigh any such considerations. First-choice Robert Sánchez or rarely used third goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli could easily deputize for now.
