Okay...
Chelsea are set to add yet another new executive to the administration, with The Athletic reporting that Minnesota Timberwolves executive Sachin Gupta is joining the organization.
The report does not specify what Gupta's role might be with the Blues, but at the Timberwolves, he was the "executive vice president of basketball operations", ushering in "a more robust strategy and analytics department" over the past five years.
Gupta does not have any experience in football (or soccer, if you will), but he's spent nearly two decades working in the NBA, holding roles at the Houston Rockets, the Detroit Pistons, and the Philadelphia 76ers as well. He's a graduate of MIT in computer science before completing his MBA at Stanford.
Chelsea CEO Chris Jurasek recently stepped down from his role, with COO Jason Gannon thus also taking on the role of club President, so Gupta will likely step in to take over certain operational responsibilities.
Sachin Gupta is leaving his post as executive VP of Basketball Ops for the Minnesota Timberwolves to take a prominent position with Chelsea FC, league sources tell @TheAthletic. Gupta spent 5 years with the Wolves and now joins one of the world's most well-known franchises.
