Up north we go

As expected, Newcastle United were able to get past AFC Wimbledon in their League Cup third round match tonight, thus setting up a fourth round tie against Chelsea.

This third round match was supposed to be played last week at Wimbledon's Plough Lane, but it was postponed and shifted to St James' Park due to pitch damage that was caused by flooding. It's still unclear when Wimbledon's stadium will be usable again, which is a rather unfortunate situation in every respect.

Coming off of a 1-1 draw against Manchester City over the weekend, Newcastle were far from impressive in this one, but did just enough to get the job done: Fabian Schär's penalty in first-half stoppage time making all the difference. Former Chelsea prospect Tino Livramento started while fellow former Blue, Lewis Hall played the final half hour.

This match will be played the week of October 28, which means that we'll face Newcastle two games in a row, first in the league at the Bridge on Sunday, October 27, then in the League Cup away. And after that, we play away at Manchester United while before then, we come back form the international break with a trip to Anfield on tap. So yeah, the schedule's about to get a whole lot tougher!
