Double dibble!

Sporting CP have confirmed via an official statement that they have agreed deals with Chelsea for the transfers of both Geovany Quenda and Dário Essugo, for a combined fee of around €74.4m (£62m).

The majority of that fee, £43.5m (€52.1m) to be exact, is for Quenda, inclusive of another £1.2m in possible performance-based bonuses during next season. Chelsea are also shouldering half the solidarity payments (so another 2.5% or so) that are due the clubs where Quenda also spent time during his development starting from age 12 (i.e. Benfica). I'm not sure if this shared structure is a standard sort of arrangement, but Sporting do make special mention of it.

The rest of that fee, £18.5m (€22.3m) is for Essugo, with a similar solidarity payment scheme but no additional bonuses.

The statement also confirms that Quenda will spend next season still at Sporting and will only join Chelsea at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. (So not a loan.) Essugo will be joining us this summer already.

Chelsea have not yet officially confirmed either deal, but welcome, Geovany and Dário! Let's win some things!
