WTF

Wesley Fofana was withdrawn on the hour-mark of our 3-0 win against Aston Villa on December 1 but it was hoped that he would be back sometime early in the new year after suffering yet another hamstring injury.

Unfortunately, even that has turned out to be far too optimistic of a prognosis. Despite all our careful management, all our concerns about workloads, it is now expected that the 24-year-old "could" miss the rest of the season. No, this is not a joke.

"Unfortunately [Wes] could be out for the season, so we don't know exactly for the entire season, but unfortunately he could be out for part of the season. [We] are trying to find different solutions, but for sure for us Wes is a huge loss."

"[...] The first information we had [was better], but then making tests we realised that it was worse than what we thought at the beginning. It's hamstring and unfortunately we are going to lose him for a while."

"I don't think this kind of injury can be compared to the rest, because this one is muscle and I think that previously he never had any injury problem, any muscle problem. So it's a completely different kind of injury. It's a bit unlucky, but he will be back and he will be back good in the way he was before he was injured.

Meanwhile, Benoît Badiashile is expected to be out for at least another month with his own hamstring issue.

In better news, Reece James is back and Roméo Lavia is "close".
