Narrow defeat for women's team

Chesterfield FC Women were back in league action this afternoon, away at Dronfield Town, going down to a narrow 2-1 defeat. The first half started evenly with both teams enjoying spells of possession. Paige Singleton came close to putting the Spireites in the lead in the 18th minute with a long-range effort but it was gathered by the Dronfield keeper. Just a few minutes later, there was a scare for Chesterfield when Rhianne Carroll found herself one-on-one with the opposition striker, but she made herself big to make a brilliant double save to stop the hosts taking the lead. It was the hosts who took the lead though in the 38th minute. Carroll’s ball out to defence held up on the uneven pitch and Dronfield pounced first to make it 1-0. The Spireites responded well though and, in the 44th minute, Hayley Hulme did brilliantly to take on several opposition defenders before finishing well, putting the ball across the keeper and into the far corner to make it 1-1 at half time.
