Spireites win to secure home tie

James Berry scored twice as the Spireites ended the Bristol Street Motors Trophy group stage with a 3-2 victory against Grimsby Town at the SMH Group Stadium. He and Paddy Madden had goals cancelled out by Lewis Cass and Cameron Gardner before the winger popped up with a second-half winner. Paul Cook made seven changes from the weekend with Ryan Boot, Jamie Grimes, Ollie Banks and Berry being the only survivors. It was one of the players left in that opened the scoring after eight minutes. Berry was allowed to make some space for himself before firing an effort from 25 yards past Jordan Wright. Grimsby found a leveller ten minutes later; Cass barrelled down on goal and saw his first effort blocked by Liam Mandeville before converting at the second attempt. Just after the re-start, John Fleck went down and was forced off with an injury – Darren Oldaker was his replacement. As the clock ticked past the half-hour mark, Justin Obikwu had a golden chance for the visitors but found Boot in his way as the goalkeeper turned the ball away with his feet.
