Women's team beaten away from home

Chesterfield FC Women were away to league champions Gainsborough Trinity this afternoon, falling to a 5-3 defeat. Goalkeeper Rhianne Carroll was called into action early in the game, stretching to get across goal and make a fingertip save to deny the hosts. Gainsborough took the lead in the 19th minute, when their striker broke through on goal and slotted home.  Despite Chesterfield responding on the attack, the hosts doubled their lead 15 minutes later.  After a stoppage due to injury, Gainsborough added a third from a corner.  The Spireites got one back in the 44th minute. A looping volley from Paige Singleton, from around 30 yards, caught the ‘keeper out.  Ten minutes into the second half, Gainsborough added another, before scoring a fifth in the 60th minute. The Spireites weren’t backing down though and Hayley Hulme had a header cleared off the line. Another brilliant goal came for Chesterfield when Maddie Watkinson fired the ball in from over 20 yards to make it 5-2.  In the 78th minute the Spireites got a third.
