Everton are back in the mix to sign Juventus’ Arthur Melo in the winter market, according to Tutto Juve.

Last season, the midfielder was on loan at Fiorentina and featured regularly for La Viola. He’s been left out of Thiago Motta’s plans at Juve and hasn’t made an appearance this season.

Two months ago, we covered claims from Italy which stated Everton are a concrete option for him in January.

Since then, Real Betis stepped forward and various claims said they are set to secure the 28-year-old’s services. The La Liga side haven’t yet concluded the deal, and that has allowed Everton to get back into the picture.

According to Tutto Juve, the Toffees have made contact with the player’s entourage in the ‘last few hours’ to ask about his situation. They add the negotiations with Real Betis are currently at a standstill and this can give David Moyes’ side an opportunity to swoop in.

Everton ‘could shoot the arrow and overtake’ Real Betis to sign the Brazilian in this window. The report adds there could be developments in the ‘coming hours’.

Arthur has been linked to Everton since before the club takeover and obviously prior to David Moyes returning. It seems a stretch they’d still be so keen on a player who has already struggled on Merseyside.

Perhaps they’re being used to pressure Real Betis into hurrying up.
