Everton are among the clubs to have shown interest in VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade.

Last week, we covered claims from Germany which stated Everton have the 23-year-old on their radar. It was also reported the Toffees are expected to tussle with Bayern Munich for Woltemade in the summer window.

The German has operated as a striker and a No.10 this season, managing 12 goals and three assists from 25 games.

Woltemade left Werder Bremen as a free agent at the end of last season and joined Stuttgart. During his time with his former club, they sent him on loan at lower division side SV Elversberg.

Bild spoke to Elversberg manager Horst Steffen to find out how the attacker improved his game under his orders.

Elversberg were then in the third division and the Everton target was instrumental in their promotion to the second division. He scored 17 goals and registered 12 assists from 37 games during his loan spell.

When Steffen asked about the player’s footballing secrets, he said: “His total package. In my opinion, he’s essentially a No.10: He has exceptionally good dribbling and enjoys playing one-twos with his teammates. But Nick also has the qualities of a No.9, can control the ball, read space, and has developed a very accurate finishing style over time. That combination is very rare.”

The Elversberg coach was asked about the recent reports linking him to Bayern, with Everton overlooked.

“I don’t set any limits for Nick! When he left Bremen for Stuttgart, many were surprised because Nick only became a regular starter late at Bremen, I was surprised too, by the way,” Steffen explained.

“But now it’s obvious that it was exactly the right decision at the time, just like his loan to Elversberg. So why shouldn’t things work out at Bayern if the opportunity presents itself at some point and Nick wants to take it?”
