Nottingham Forest took on Crystal Palace in Premier League 2 action last night and a surprise name was on the team sheet when it was announced.

The Reds were hoping to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat last time out to Brighton but were beaten in heartbreaking circumstances again.

Forest lost to the Seagulls with a late goal and last night a similar situation arose as Palace ran out 2-1 winners, scoring in the 87th minute.

Palace took the lead through Jemiah Umolu but Forest looked to have snatched a point when Joe Gardner equalised in the 82nd minute.

Forest couldn’t hold on though and Justib Devenny fired the Eagles to a big win at Sutton United’s stadium ensuring a second successive Premier League 2 defeat for the young Reds.

Eric da Silva Moreira plays for Nottingham Forest B-Team

The German under-19 international signed for Forest in the summer from St Pauli and he spent the summer training and playing matches with the first team.

It was claimed that Forest defender Moreira impressed Nuno Espirito Santo during pre-season training and he made his debut against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Moreira was on the bench for four of the first five games of the 2024/25 campaign but with the squad now taking shape, he’s been left out of games against Liverpool and Fulham completely.

Clearly, Forest want him to get some games under his belt and last night he lined up as the right-back in Warren Joyce’s team.

Moreira looks like a player with one eye on the future and at 18-years-old there is no reason why he can’t help the B-Team out when they need him.

How Nottingham Forest have started in Premier League 2

Well, much like the first team, the Forest B-Team have nine points from five games played so far in Premier League 2.

The Reds are very much a work in progress at this level having obtained Category One academy status in recent years.

This season, the league isn’t regionalised and instead, the Premier League two has 26 teams with each team playing 20 matches across the season.

Nottingham Forest’s Premier League 2 campaign so far

After the regular season has been completed, the top 16 will qualify for a single elimination play-off.

Forest are well on course for the play-offs with their current points-to-game ratio and right now they sit seventh in Premier League two.

With two gutting defeats in successive Premier League 2 games, Forest will hope to bounce back quickly and face Southampton next on Friday night.
