James Ward-Prowse was given a rare chance to prove himself in the Nottingham Forest team yesterday as the Reds knocked Luton Town out of the FA Cup.
The Reds midfielder has been feeding on scraps in terms of game time for the last couple of months. Since being sent off against Chelsea he’s struggled to get back into the team under Nuno Espirito Santo.
It’s been claimed that Ward-Prowse is a positive influence at Forest. At 30-years-old, he’s a very experienced player and there is a reason that he was sought after by the club this summer.
Against Luton, Ward-Prowse was in fantastic form. Okay, the game came against second-tier opposition but this was a display that suggested he can still make an impact this season.
Journalist makes claim about James Ward-Prowse
Although it seems as though Forest want to keep Ward-Prowse, the change of management at West Ham might complicate things with the transfer window now open.
Alex Crook from TalkSPORT has claimed that Graham Potter might choose to get Ward-Prowse back at the London Stadium as he seeks to revive the fortunes of the Hammers.
He told the TalkSPORT podcast: “What about James Ward-Prowse, he’s on loan at Nottingham Forest, he played a lot of football for David Moyes, clearly wasn’t fancied by Julen Lopetegui, and he’s only started five games for Forest.
“For me, he’s just the type of player, just the type of character could embrace so it wouldn’t be a complete shock if they were to recall him from Forest.”
Forest should keep Ward-Prowse for remainder of 2024/25
The 30-year-old showcased yesterday what he’s capable of if he gets into his top form. His set pieces were on point yesterday and he actually finished the game with 100% of his pass attempts completed.
Ward-Prowse hasn’t all of a sudden become a bad player. He’s been out of the Forest side whilst other stars do the business but he proved against Luton what he can bring to the team.
With 18 matches left to play, there will come a time when Forest have injuries and suspensions to contend with. Having a player like Ward-Prowse in reserve is ideal and he can be an asset to Espirito Santo.
All parties will need to agree to this deal in order for a recall to take place. With Forest challenging for European competition this season, it looks unlikely that Ward-Prowse would welcome a recall.
