Nikola Milenkovic has been one of the star performers for Nottingham Forest this season, but his nation had a night to forget against Spain in the Nations League.

Nuno Espirito Santo has already spoken about how highly he rates Nikola Milenkovic in the short time he’s been at Nottingham Forest.

The Serbian has already established himself as a regular, building a formidable partnership with Murillo at the heart of the Reds’ defence.

Newcastle United have been impressed by Milenkovic’s performances ahead of January, but Nuno will be desperate to keep his star man.

Nottingham Forest‘s impressive start to the season leaves them in an advantageous position, with one of the best defensive records and a shot at the European places right now.

However, it was a night to forget for Nikola Milenkovic and his national side Serbia in the Nations League yesterday, as they were demolished 3-0 by Spain.

Nikola Milenkovic’s performance in numbers vs Spain

Nikola Milenkovic didn’t do a great deal wrong personally, it was more of a collectively disappointing display from the Serbians.

The Nottingham Forest star played the full 90 minutes against Spain. He made three clearances, blocked one shot, won two of his four duels, was fouled once, lost possession four times, had 40 touches, a passing accuracy of 89%, and completed three of his six long balls (as per SofaScore).

It was a game that was all about Spain’s dominance with the ball, enjoying 67% to 33% possession and a whopping 30 shots to Serbia’s three.

Nikola Milenkovic’s brilliant season to date at Nottingham Forest

Let’s not take away from the brilliant start Milenkovic has made to the season for Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea fans were blown away by Milenkovic’s display at Stamford Bridge prior to the international break, despite Murillo being the one linked with a move there.

The Fiorentina manager has already explained how sad he is not to have Milenkovic in Italy anymore too, highlighting his importance to every side he plays for.

It’ll be interesting to see how his career develops, but right now he’s found a home at the City Ground.
