Nottingham Forest and Leicester City don’t have a rivalry that sees the two clubs contest for a trophy but if they did, the Reds would be holding it aloft right now.

Forest ran out 3-1 winners at the King Power Stadium as Nuno Espirito Santo masterminded a second win of the week from the stands as he serves his three-match ban.

Chris Wood scored a couple of goals to take his tally for the season to seven goals from nine appearances and he really is a man bang in form at the moment.

There were a number of top performers against Leicester with Nicolas Dominguez getting some praise from the Forest supporters after the all-East Midlands clash.

It was Wood who continued his fine run of form though and it’s fair to say that he’s completely won over the Forest fans after his £15 million move from Newcastle was initially questioned.

Wood deserves all of the plaudits that are currently coming his way and he will hope to remain in the goals as Forest look to progress this season.

What Martin O’Neill has said about Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood

It’s fair to say that O’Neill isn’t afraid to say what he thinks – regardless of how controversial it might be.

He’s implied that if he was still in charge of Forest – theoretically – he might not be starting Wood, conceding that he’s been surprised by his form at the City Ground.

He said after Friday’s game: “I have to say that I’m surprised at how well the centre-forward is doing but great credit to him as well, he’s got a few goals, he’s adding all the time and he feels when he steps on the pitch that he’s going to score and that’s a great thing for a centre-forward.”

Wood needs Forest contract extending

The Reds’ talisman will be out of contract in the summer of 2025 and ultimately, some other Premier League clubs might be preparing a swoop for the big man.

He’s scoring goals for fun at the moment and that is something that doesn’t come easily when you’re a club fighting in the Premier League.

Wood is only 32 – his birthday is in December – and with his fitness still sharp and his form brilliant, Forest would be wise to act.

Forest can’t become that club that lets top quality leave the football club on free transfers and whilst he’s in this form, the club needs to make sure he’s signed to a longer contract.
