Jermaine Jenas has raved about one Nottingham Forest star who gave Sheffield United nightmares at the weekend.

The Reds won 3-1 at Bramall Lane as Nuno Espirito Santo saw his team edge closer to Premier League survival.

Two of the Forest goals were scored by Callum Hudson-Odoi, with the other coming from Ryan Yates.

It was the first time that Yates has scored for Forest in the Premier League and he received praise from Chris Wood and Joe Worrall.

It was another player who came in for praise from Jenas, however, and he thinks one Forest player is now coming to the fore.

Jermaine Jenas lauds ‘incredible’ Nottingham Forest star

It was a very strong performance by Forest in South Yorkshire – at least after they’d fallen behind anyway.

The catalyst for their resurgence was the scorer of two goals Hudson-Odoi and the Forest winger was excellent again.

He certainly caught the eye of Jenas and he hailed the man who cost Forest just £3 million during the summer.

Jenas said on Match of the Day: “It was Callum Hudson-Odoi who shone for Forest. The quality was there to see.

“So much has been spoken about him. Technically it’s an incredible finish for the first goal on the bounce. A bit of top-spin and bend it to get into that corner. It’s a real quality finish.

“Every time he came down the left-hand side he sat Jayden Bogle down.

“To see him back to his best in a Forest shirt is great to see. He had his injuries at Chelsea and he got off to a bit of a slower start at Forest.

“But once he gets the starts – 14 starts now he’s had – everything then starts to come from that.”

Hudson-Odoi is outside bet for Player of the Year

In our view, the 23-year-old is certainly one of the signings of the season and he could go one further.

The Player of the Year will probably be a close-run thing this year, with a number of strong candidates.

Hudson-Odoi deserves to be in the mix and has found the net seven times this season.

For Forest to land him for just £3 million is quite remarkable. The club have done a number on Chelsea in that sense and the recruitment people deserve praise.

The exciting thing about Hudson-Odoi is that he’s proved this season that he is capable of staying fit with the right management.

At 23, Forest have got themselves a player with an abundance of potential on their hands and he could be even better next season.

Hudson-Odoi was a risk-free addition to the Forest ranks and as a result, Jenas was right to praise him after Saturday.
