Brian Clough’s legacy will forever live on at Nottingham Forest, and Jamie Carragher has just made a big claim about his side.

Nottingham Forest are surpassing expectations in the first seven Premier League games, with just one loss and a place in the top half of the table.

It’s not been perfect, but Nuno Espirito Santo is nailing his tactics, with the impressive defensive display evidence of that at Stamford Bridge.

Jamie Carragher has already praised the signings both Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga, and both players have had big parts to play this season.

Forest have popped up in conversations involving Carragher once again, as he’s made a big claim on Brian Clough‘s European cup-winning sides this time round.

Jamie Carragher is one of the most well-known football pundits in English football, but it’s not often you hear him bringing up Nottingham Forest himself.

Interestingly, in a video posted by The Overlap on X, Jamie Carragher brings up Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest side when talking about the greatest achievement in British football.

Gary Neville asked.

“Is the treble (Man United) the greatest achievement in British football, or not? The 99 one.”

Carragher replied.

“You’re talking about British football; I mean, if you’re looking at one team, you look at what Nottingham Forest did. Where they came up, won the league, and then won two European Cups year after year.

“When you think about that, that is like mad.”

Nottingham Forest’s glory days under Brian Clough

The Reds rose from the second tier to be crowned First Division champions before conquering Europe, all between 1977 and 1979.

Clough also collected four League Cups, a European Super Cup and a Charity Shield.

Evangelos Marinakis recently praised Clough’s influence. He will always be remembered for the wonderful things he did for this club.

Interestingly, Roy Keane, who was there when Carragher made this claim, was put up in accommodation by Brian Clough when he joined Nottingham Forest.
