Murillo has just dropped a big hint on his Nottingham Forest future after Liverpool draw
Today at 03:00 PM
Nottingham Forest bloodies the nose of title hopefuls Liverpool last night with a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.
In the build-up, Arne Slot made a comical claim about Forest. He mentioned the club’s spending when in reality last night’s starting eleven equated to less than the money paid to sign Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.
Despite a frantic start for Liverpool, it was Forest who struck first. Chris Wood was praised by Slot before the match and his left-footed effort left Alisson stranded and sparked pandemonium at the City Ground.
The league leaders weren’t to be denied though. With 24 minutes of the game remaining Diogo Jota popped up from a corner and restored parity between the two sides.
Murillo was outstanding during the contest for Forest. He belied his tender years with a display of defending right out of the top drawer and he remains a vital part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
Murillo drops hint over his Nottingham Forest future
Clubs queued up to make enquiries to Forest in the summer. Murillo was wanted by at least four Premier League clubs but Evangelos Marinakis battened down the hatches and told everyone where to go.
Murillo has been praised by Ian Wright this season. He’s in fine fettle at the moment and at 22-years-old it appears that he’s progressing as a player with every game he plays for Forest.
Forest have offered Murillo a new contract. Now, the Brazilian has perhaps dropped a hint that suggests what would need to happen for the player to consider staying on Trentside beyond this season.
He said on Brazilian TV: “It’s an objective that we’ve seen can be achieved due to the potential, the day-to-day life that we live, the results as well that the team are managing to get. We see also the achievements are surreal so we see this as an objective.
“We have six wins and one draw from our last seven matches, we are undefeated. So let’s work. We will love hearing the Champions League music at the City Ground, our club has already won two and it would be an honour to compete in the Champions League again with Nottingham Forest.”
Forest need Europe to keep star men
Qualifying for the Champions League this season will be tough. Newcastle are playing well, whilst Chelsea and Manchester City will naturally revive their form at some stage of the campaign.
In order to keep the players that Forest have at their disposal, some kind of European football is needed next season. As for Murillo, however, reaching the Europa League might not be quite enough.
A player of his ilk craves the Champions League and why wouldn’t he? He has all of the attributes to go right to the top and it’s fascinating to see where he will eventually rock up.
Right now, however, Forest is a good club for his development. He’s playing every week in a team that loves having him around and for a head coach who is giving him the confidence to play with freedom every week.
