Nottingham Forest star says Liverpool got 'lucky' as he shares how the squad reacted to the draw
Today at 07:00 AM
Nottingham Forest claimed a draw against Liverpool in a game that was being billed as a Premier League title decider by some sections of the media.
That feels like a bit of a stretch. Forest are in an unexpected position in the league table and are still six points behind Liverpool with Arne Slot’s team boasting a game in hand.
Slot actually praised Chris Wood – the scorer of last night’s goal – in the build-up to the game. He’s been a useful asset to Forest this season and he’s now just one strike away from last season’s total.
Forest were indebted to Matz Sels last night. The goalkeeper made several fine saves about Liverpool had equalised and seized the initiative in the clash from the Reds who were more than worth their lead.
The squad didn’t look too downbeat at the end of the game. Why would they? Forest have taken four points from Liverpool this season and remain the only team to actually beat Slot’s outfit.
Ola Aina shares how the Forest squad felt after Liverpool draw
The team spirit at Forest appears remarkable at the moment. After the game last night there was none of the usual dancing and celebrating that has been evident in recent weeks and the players remained reserved.
That’s a sign of how far this group has come. In the past, Forest might have celebrated drawing with Liverpool as a massive result but on this occasion the reaction was more subdued.
Indeed, Ola Aina felt as though the Reds should have won. He took to Snapchat after the game to share some thoughts to his followers regarding the Premier League clash.
He said: “I don’t know. Did Liverpool catch life? Or did we? Because they scored a lucky corner. But also they were letting off hella shots. But then again it was access denied for the man there. I’ll take the point. In one season we’ve stained four points from them lot, I don’t mind. Can’t lie as a team and club we’ve come far. Happy with the point but we came away from that feeling like we took an L, just goes to show.”

Once again, Aina was in fine form. He started the game at right-back and with Neco Williams operating on the left, it would seem as though he’s found his place in the team.
Aina is in talks over a new deal at Forest. It’s anticipated that a certain number of games will trigger an extension for another year, but the Reds are keen to get him tied down to a long-term arrangement.

The 28-year-old is probably in his prime right now and Forest won’t want to lose him on a free transfer. With the window now open, overseas clubs are able to discuss a pre-contract with Aina over a deal for the summer.
Forest are going well this season and Aina has been a big part of the success. Now, the challenge is to ensure that one of the most influential dressing-room figures remains at the club.
