Nottingham Forest’s most publicised pursuit in January has been the hunt for an alternative striker to Chris Wood, with Yuri Alberto and Igor Jesus at the heart of discussions.

As Forest are optimistic Wood will sign a new contract, attention can focus more clearly on the Kiwi international’s potential back-up, with plenty of names in the running.

Lorenzo Lucca was linked with Forest most recently, whilst Forest’s interest in Santiago Gimenez has also remained despite the difficulties in the summer.

Jesus and Alberto have both remained ever-present in the rumour mill, though, with the Brazilian pair clearly seen as potentially valuable additions to the Forest squad.

However, with Nuno Espirito Santo only requiring one addition in the forward area, an update on Forest’s potential pursuits of the two has been revealed.

Nottingham Forest offered Yuri Alberto as potential striker

Forest have admired Alberto for a long time, with the striker scoring 31 goals in 57 appearances for Corinthians in 2024.

This admiration may be set to accelerate, as Graeme has exclusively told Nottingham Forest News that the club have been offered the chance to sign the Brazilian striker.

He told us: “I think they [Forest] would be open if the right deal comes up. Alberto obviously would be quite an expensive loan deal but I think he's one who's been offered to them in principle but not for definite.”

Bailey had initially revealed Forest’s interest in Alberto, with the potential for a January deal now clearly on the cards. Especially given that Espirito Santo’s side have been offered the chance to sign Alberto, the right deal could see Evangelos Marinakis act on the interest.

With the potential for Alberto to arrive at the City Ground, Bailey also shared the implications such a deal would have on any interest in fellow Brazillian, Jesus.

Nottingham Forest prioritise Yuri Alberto over Igor Jesus

Bailey confirmed Forest’s interest in Jesus to Nottingham Forest News, but his further update emphasised the club’s priority is Alberto.

He said: “Forest are one of the ones in the Igor Jesus situation but I don't think they've pushed ahead with it.”

Jesus had given the green light to Forest over a potential January move, but the club’s interest in Alberto has meant that the Botofogo man will have to wait for the interest in his Brazilian compatriot to pass.

Jesus is also an impressive goalscorer, but his eight goals in 31 appearances is bested by Alberto, making Forest’s move for the Corinthians star make clear sense.
