Nottingham Forest were soundly beaten by Newcastle on Sunday as a sound run of form came to an abrupt end.

The Reds did take the lead through Murillo and Nuno Espirito Santo praised him after the game.

Second-half goals from Alexander Isak, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes consigned Forest to a second defeat of the season.

Still, it’s been a solid campaign for the Reds so far and Forest are currently fifth in the Premier League table.

With some new players in the squad – and new areas of seating at the City Ground – attendances have been up on Trentside.

On Sunday there were some intriguing spectators to watch Forest in action and even some former players.

Promotion hero watches Nottingham Forest lose to Newcastle

The Reds won promotion to the Premier League in 2022 and during the first season back in the top flight, a number of promotion-winning players were given a chance to shine.

One of those was Scott McKenna – the player who won the Player of the Year accolade during that season.

On Sunday, he was back on Trentside in capacity in the new block of seats that have been assembled in the corner between the Trent End and the Brian Clough Stand.

McKenna was spotted by an eagle-eyed supporter before the game and it was great to see him back looking in good spirits at Forest.

In truth, McKenna wasn’t that bad when he was called upon in the Premier League but he did perhaps lack that yard of extra pace to be a success in the division.

Forest signed McKenna for £6 million and became pretty much an instant hit in Garibaldi.

The big travesty was that Forest allowed a player like McKenna to run his contract down and leave for nothing.

A disagreement between his agent and Evangelos Marinakis ended Forest’s chances of cashing in on him and he departed on a free in the summer.

McKenna made 106 appearances for Forest but signed for Las Palmas during the summer on a free transfer.

He’s made nine outings for them so far this season in La Liga and wherever his career takes him, he will always be welcomed back at the City Ground.
