Nottingham Forest put in a valiant display against Chelsea, which saw one particular opposition player share their praise for Matz Sels at full-time.

Nuno Espirito Santo set his side up perfectly to tackle Chelsea’s quality on Sunday afternoon, with Cole Palmer relatively quiet.

Nottingham Forest grabbed the first goal through Chris Wood and looked good value for their lead, but James Ward-Prowse’s red card certainly didn’t help and Chelsea equalised.

Interestingly, Nottingham Forest fans were quick to blame Nuno for not bringing Ward-Prowse off, who didn’t have the best of games.

That didn’t matter in the end, as a number of impressive saves from Matz Sels kept the game at 1-1, which isn’t a bad result at all for Forest.

One Chelsea player in particular was left seriously impressed with the goalkeeper.

Chelsea star left seriously impressed by Matz Sels

Matz Sels had arguably the best game he’s had in a Nottingham Forest shirt after joining for £5 million.

One Chelsea star agreed, as he showered the Belgian with praise in his post-match interview.

Speaking after the game (as per BBC), Robert Sanchez was amazed by his counterpart.

“Sometimes when the opponents go down to 10 it doesn’t get easier. [Matz] Sels was top as well, making saves at the end."

Matz Sels’ performance in numbers vs Chelsea

Sels has been criticised at times this season, with Roy Keane labelling him abysmal a couple of weeks ago.

However, he will have won back a number of critics with his Chelsea performance, as he kept them in the game at times towards the end with a number of fantastic saves.

He made seven saves, six of which were from inside his box, had 44 touches, made 11 passes, completed nine long balls, won one aerial duel, and was fouled once.

Nottingham Forest have impressed defensively this season, only conceding six goals so far in seven games, which saw Nuno Espirito Santo praise Sels recently.
