Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates has settled in the Premier League and continues to prove his doubters wrong.

Very few players in the history of Forest have divided opinion quite like Yates continues to do so in the stands at the City Ground.

The player has made 210 appearances for Forest and these days he’s considered the captain on Trentside.

Don Hutchinson has recently heaped praise on Yates and he’s not the only pundit to have been impressed by Yates.

Jamie Carragher called him a ‘nark’ after a 1-1 draw with Chelsea during the 2022/23 campaign for his ability to wind up the opposition.

Ryan Yates shares what area he’s had to improve in

Yates is only 26-years-old and ultimately he is still improving when it comes to being a competent Premier League player.

But, there has been clear progress this season and against Chelsea last time out he was a man in fine form.

He roared into a tackle with Enzo Fernandez after just 17 seconds and that set the tone for a dogged Forest performance.

Yates has accepted that his performances in the early stages of Forest being back in the Premier League needed brushing up.

He’s highlighted one thing that really shocked him about the step up and admits that he needed to get better in one area.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “When we played Manchester City and Manchester United, even out of possession which I felt I was really good at in the Championship, made me stop and think, ‘Wow, I’m a little bit off it here’. The level is just top.”

Yates finally showing consistency for Forest

It’s been a long road but even his harshest critics can’t deny that Yates is currently a player who is in strong form.

He leads by example on the pitch and one aspect that can never come into question is the commitment he shows out on the pitch.

Yates is now starting to show some consistency out on the pitch for Forest and that is a welcome upturn in the player’s fortunes.

It’s great to hear Yates talk about how the Premier League took him by surprise and it’s probably something that gets lost on supporters.

Thankfully, the player has worked hard at his game and is now silencing his critics with some top Premier League performances.
