4 years on, and Ibrox stopping Celtic's 10IAR bid has been shown to be the epitome of a Pyrrhic victory

Last night, on the Trinty Tims podcast, we discussed in depth the position the Ibrox club now finds itself in.
To understand fully, though, why they are in such dire straits, we need only to look back to four years ago.
Myself, Joe and James discussed many things surrounding their current predicament, but one subject in particular was their year on year losses, especially since the Covid season.
This, of course, stemmed from the Onion bears’ mass protest at last Sunday’s home game against St. Johnstone.
The Onion bears cite the club’s inability to capitalise on their 2021 Covid title win as part of the cause for their protests against the board.
And part of their drive for “real change”.
What they refuse to accept, and also choose to ignore, is how much that title win actually cost them.
As we alluded to last night, the financial impact of Covid 19 on all Scottish clubs was massive.
Because Celtic had a decent cash reserve, we survived it relatively intact, despite our disastrous on field performances that season.
The Ibrox club, although their support refuses to acknowledge this, was not immune to the financial impact of Covid 19.
On the contrary, it hit them extremely hard.
In addition to the heavy investment in Steven Gerrard’s squad, 2020/21 was an unmitigated financial disaster for them.
It is a big part of the reason they find themselves in such a desperate state in 2025.
The fact that a Celtic podcast had to spell this out, and that nobody seems to want to talk about this, let alone acknowledge it, on any Ibrox forums or social media, tells you the complete ignorance that fanbase chooses to live in.
As well as the SMSM, of course, who won’t touch this with a bargepole either.
Is it willful ignorance though?
Or are they actually that stupid that they cannot see what we can see?
What we are happy to spell out for them, since nobody else is?
They lost £22 million at Ibrox during the Covid season.
£22 million lost, and they believe that an opportunity was lost to push on and keep Celtic under their boot?
Just how delusional are these peepul, really?
If you are looking for the perfect definition of a Pyrrhic victory, then look no further than the Ibrox side’s Covid title win.
Back in October of 2021, I wrote an article on it on my old blog.
This was only months after the Ibrox side had secured their first title.
Back then, I even titled their win as a Pyrrhic victory.
Looking at things today, I feel vindicated in what I wrote back then, even though at that particular time, we were still well behind the Ibrox side in the league.
I firmly believed it would all come apart at the seams, here is a paragraph from that article which shows how on the money I was:
This is what makes it a Pyrrhic Victory for Sevco. The cost of stopping the ten is, as yet, unknown. We have yet to see a set of accounts from Ibrox, but there is no doubt they will make for scary reading. Since the defeat to Malmo, it is clearly evident that this season is make or break for Sevco. Every resource was thrown at stopping Celtic from winning ten in a row and all for what? One trophy and the ability to say, we stopped the ten? I would put this to Sevco fans, is one title and stopping ten in a row worth more to you than the existence of your club?
You can access the full article via the link provided.
For posterity, here is the Oxford dictionary’s definition of Pyrrhic:
(of a victory) won at too great a cost to have been worthwhile for the victor. “the best they can hope for is a pyrrhic victory”
The fact that the klanbase looks on their Pyrrhic victory as a lost opportunity to dominate Scottish football tells you just how disconnected they are from reality.
The number 55 may just cost them everything in the end.
Of course, if we win this season’s title, that’s another bullshit milestone we’ve obliterated.
55 will be a number they grow to despise, and then 56, and on, and on.
Yet they still talk about that title win as if it was some kind of platform they failed to take advantage of.
That effectively, their board did a Celtic on it, and fell asleep at the wheel.
Became complacent, if you will.
Because of course, winning one title made them the dominant force in Scottish football.
Everything Celtic had done before that was superceded.
And after that one title, they became complacent, their board lost their hunger and appetite for success.
That’s why they want them gone.
Because these guys are a bunch of complacent losers.
They’ve have allowed Celtic to lord it all over them since 2021.
When it really should have been the other way around.
Indeed.
There’s just one small problem with that theory.
In order to lord it all over Celtic, they would need to have the kind of money Celtic has.
And they don’t.
But their fanbase just can’t grasp this.
They can’t grasp the fact that their 2021 Covid title victory destroyed them.
To the tune of £22 million, and chronic losses ever since.
All of which has been covered by the board they so desperately want gone.
If they didn’t understand what a Pyrrhic victory was before now, they certainly will after reading this article.
A small piece of advice though.
Be very careful what you wish for…
Although no, scratch that.
Keep wishing for what your wishing for.
Don’t let me stop you!
