Mohamed Diomande attracted the attention of one of his former teammates as the Rangers man starred away from Ibrox.

The 23-year-old has been a staple of the Gers’ lineup since Barry Ferguson took charge at Rangers, notching important goal contributions against Fenerbahce in the Europa League and Celtic.

He continued that fine form away from Ibrox as the Ivory Coast began their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, earning a start in a narrow 1-0 win over Gambia on Monday, 24 March.

With upcoming fixtures against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League, Ferguson will just be glad to see one of his star midfielders return to Ibrox without a scratch.

Taking to Instagram [24 March], Diomande wrote: “Great way to close out the week – another 3 points on the board for the World Cup qualifiers,” with a fire and football emojis.

Abdallah Sima, who experienced six months with Diomande at Ibrox before his loan spell ended, commented on the post with love heart, fire and flexed muscle emojis.

Teammates Nico Raskin, Jack Butland, Ianis Hagi and James Tavernier all liked the post, with many of them leaving their own little message for the midfielder too.

The international window has been an incredible period for some of the individual stars, with Raskin being tipped for a Rangers exit this summer, now being linked with Premier League clubs.

Many supporters will be hoping for Vaclav Cerny to remain at Ibrox on a permanent basis, having notched 17 goals and seven assists across all competitions, and becoming a key element of the squad.

Barry Ferguson could bring silverware back to Ibrox.

However, now, the Light Blues will be back to full focus on club football, with Ferguson wanting to keep the best form ahead of home and away clashes against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League.

If Ferguson is to consolidate himself as Rangers manager permanently, lifting a European title ahead of Man United and Tottenham, as well as beating the Hoops again, could certainly help.

With just one Scottish Premiership defeat to tarnish his record at Ibrox so far, it is going really well for the former midfielder so far.
