Tottenham Hotspur are enduring their worst start to a Premier League season in 15 years.

Spurs have picked up just 10 points from seven games, and they've lost three of their last five.

Questions are starting to be asked of Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, but speaking on his TikTok page, Troy Deeney has come out to bat for the Australian.

Indeed, Deeney refuses to blame Postecoglou for Tottenham's recent defensive issues, claiming that most of the goals Spurs concede aren't down to the manager, stating that he actually feels sorry for the manager as his defenders are letting him down.

Troy Deeney feels sorry for Ange Postecoglou

The pundit spoke about the £100k-a-week manager.

"I actually feel sorry for the fella you know," Deeney said.

"You look at how Spurs play, they play some good stuff, they attack well and score loads of goals, but when it comes to defending, people blame the manager for defending, but how can you put on a session that stops people mis-kicking a ball?

"You can't do anything about poor defending, the last goal for example, Rutter shouldn't be getting that, foul him, then when you get to the byline Bentancur is there, just get it.

"I think when you look at Ange, I would challenge people to look at the goals they concede, they're not structural damage ones, they're not struggling, it's man to man, me vs you, that's more mentality."

Postecoglou's tactics have been called 'ridiculous'

Deeney refuses to blame Postecoglou for Tottenham's defensive issues, but there is reason to say that the manager needs to change.

According to the Premier League's stats, Spurs' players have made only one individual error leading to a goal, and that suggests that the issues are structural.

Yes, Postecoglou can't do anything about his players shirking a tackle, but that's not the only reason Spurs have conceded this season.

Postecoglou plays such a high line in his defence, and that makes it so easy for other teams to get in behind.

Micky Gray has previously called Postecoglou's defensive tactics 'ridiculous'.

"I hope this comes out the right way. It's not winning football, and winning Champions League football, winning silverware. It's great on the eye. But at times, it's ridiculous. It's beyond belief sometimes when you watch the high line," Gray said.

Postecoglou's team have ongoing defensive problems, and perhaps he needs to change things in order to turn the tide after a poor start to the season.
