As two of the Premier League’s best teams, Liverpool and Arsenal boast world-class quality throughout their respective squads.

And when it comes to their respective defences, the Reds and the Gunners have some especially amazing talents holding the fort.

Liverpool, for instance, have conceded just six goals in the Premier League this season thanks to great work by Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

Arsenal, meanwhile, boast the outstanding centre-back pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Last season, the defensive duo helped the Gunners boast the tightest defence in the league, conceding just 29 goals in 38 games.

Now, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has revealed who he thinks is the best Premier League centre-back between Van Dijk, Saliba and Gabriel.

Alexander Isak says Arsenal’s William Saliba is the best Premier League centre-back

Isak, speaking to Viaplay Fotboll, said he thinks Saliba and Gabriel are the best duo and the hardest centre-backs he has faced in the Premier League.

The Sweden international was then asked to rank the top three best centre-backs in the English top flight in order.

Isak, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, opted for Saliba as first-choice, with Gabriel in second place and Van Dijk at third.

Trophy wins are built on defences

Although strikers and attacking midfielders catch the eye the most, there’s no doubting that defences are what win titles and tournaments.

Liverpool and Arsenal both boast two of the finest centre-back pairings in the Premier League, if not the world.

By contrast, Manchester City and Chelsea have both conceded 13 goals apiece in the league this season.

Obviously it’s still early days, but with how good Liverpool have been at the back, it’s not surprising to see them boasting such a healthy lead at the summit.
