Ally McCoist names one Euro 2024 star he would love to see in the Premier League with West Ham previously interested

Scotland legend Ally McCoist believes Germany striker Niclas Fullkrug would be an excellent addition to the Premier League.

The Borussia Dortmund frontman is joint-top goalscorer at Euro 2024 despite not starting any of the three group matches.

Fullkrug came off the bench to score a stunning goal in the 5-1 victory over Scotland and then equalised with a brilliant header in the 1-1 draw against Switzerland.

While Spain duo Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal have impressed McCoist, as a former striker, it is Fullkrug he has enjoyed watching the most.

“Nico Williams has been different class,” McCoist told talkSPORT.com.

“By the way, he had an opening 20 minutes, I swear to God, against Italy. He was unbelievable, that opening 20 minutes against [Giovanni] Di Lorenzo.

“Dear me, he was tremendous. I mean, he was brilliant the whole game, but the opening 20 minutes was fantastic. He’d be terrific [in the Premier League]. Obviously, the young kid Yamal, on the other side, is great as well.

“But the one I’d like to see is Fullkrug. I have no doubt he would score goals in the top-flight in England. I like him.

“I don’t like using the term old-fashioned centre-forward. But he’s a proper centre-forward.

“He brings people into play, can go in behind, powerful, attacks things in the box. I think he’d be a tremendous signing for somebody.”

Fullkrug has been the subject of interest from Premier League sides in the past, with West Ham one team to have scouted him recently.

When he left Werder Bremen for Dortmund in 2023, he said: "I could have gone to England, for example, to a club that plays on the international stage. But I didn't feel that tingle to leave Werder Bremen for it,” adding that he got it when Champions League finalists came calling.

Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann prefers using Arsenal star Kai Havertz as his starting No.9 with Fullkrug as an option off the bench.

Havertz only has one goal in the tournament so far, a penalty, but McCoist believes the 25-year-old deserves his place in the starting XI.

The talkSPORT co-host added: “I probably wouldn’t [start Fullkrug over Havertz]. And that might sound like a little bit of a contradiction.

“But I just think the way that Germany play at this moment in time, they like starting the game with Havertz.

“And the three front players, [Florian] Wirtz, Havertz and [Jamal] Musiala, drift about and come off into pockets.

“But I just think they’ve got a brilliant option with Fullkrug, as we saw. He scored a tremendous goal against Scotland. But his header against Switzerland just summed him up.

“So I’m not sure whether I’d start him, but he’s certainly a brilliant option to have.”
