Everton's former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Amanda Staveley has cooled her interest in buying a Tottenham stake amid links with a takeover at AS Monaco.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the 51-year-old should think twice before buying into a piece of French football with broadcast and regulatory concerns weighing on his mind.
TBR Football has reported (18 December) that former Newcastle part-owner Staveley is interested in French club AS Monaco after Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev put the club up for sale.
It is claimed she could walk away from a minority stake in Spurs to take full control of the Ligue 1 club at a fraction of the price.
Daniel Levy has been in talks to sell a stake in Tottenham that could value the club at up to £3.75billion.
Alongside Staveley – Liberty Media, Sheikh Jassim and Qatar Sports Investment have also been mentioned as potential new partners for the London club.
Staveley should think twice about ditching Tottenham pursuit for AS Monaco deal, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "It does seem that things have cooled on the Tottenham front for Amanda.
"Monaco is a name I've heard mentioned by three or four investment groups recently.
"They are a club also up for sale as recently as two or three years ago. It's obviously a very attractive location for high-net-worth individuals.
"I think Monaco is probably the type of investment that would interest Amanda but there are issues around the media deal in French football.
"There are a lot of issues unresolved on the regulatory side as well."
