Southampton forward Dom Ballard has agreed to join League One side Cambridge United on loan, sources have told Football Insider.
The U’s are set to announce the 19-year-old’s arrival at 6pm on Monday (27 January) after reaching a deal with the Premier League club.
Ballard will link up with Cambridge boss and ex-Saint Garry Monk as the League One side fight relegation to the fourth tier.
He spent the first half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan with Blackpool but returned to the south coast earlier this month.
The young striker has since been in good form for Southampton’s Under-21 side, scoring four goals and notching two assists in two Premier League 2 fixtures against Fulham and Newcastle.
He scored once in 22 appearances for Blackpool this term, starting in 12 of those outings.
Ballard, who is under contract at Southampton until June 2026, notched five goals and three assists in his first senior loan at Reading last season.
He made just 12 appearances in the 2023-24 season before seeing his loan cut short by a serious injury.
Cambridge to announce deal for Southampton striker Ballard
The 19-year-old has played for England at youth level and has hit one goal in four games for the Under-20 side.
Ballard has played four times for Southampton’s senior side, with his only goal coming in a League Cup tie against Cambridge in 2022.
Monk’s side sit 22nd in League One after beating Mansfield 3-2 on Saturday (25 January).
The U’s are six points from safety with 20 games of the 2024-25 campaign still to play, while Southampton are set for relegation from the Premier League having picked up just six points so far this term.
