Celtic midfielder Arne Engels has taken to social media to celebrate “Another great night at the Park” after their 2-0 Scottish Premier League win over Dundee United on Wednesday (January 8).
The 21-year-old played 80 minutes against Dundee United as Brendan Rodgers’ side secured their 18th win from 21 league games so far this season.
Engels impressed during his time on the pitch, ending his game having had 81 touches, an 85 per cent pass accuracy rate, and created three chances.
Japan international Daizen Maeda opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, latching on to the Dundee United goalkeeper’s parry from Luke McGowan’s initial shot.
Substitute Reo Hatate came off the bench to round off the scoring in the 83rd minute to send Celtic 16 points clear at the top of the table.
Second-placed Rangers have the chance to close the gap at the top to 13 should they beat Dundee FC on Thursday (January 9).
Arne Engels worth every penny as Celtic runaway at the top of the table
The central midfielder has proved to be a smart buy after Celtic paid a club-record £11million to secure his signature as a replacement for Matt O’Riley.
Engels has started 20 of his 29 games across all competitions, scoring five goals, and providing nine assists in his 1698 minutes of action.
Clearly delighted with yet another home win, the Belgium international took to Instagram to say: “Another great night at the Park.”
Rodgers’ side have six games remaining in January alone, including crucial Champions League ties with Young Boys and Aston Villa.
Celtic will have their attention fully on their next Scottish Premier League game, however, traveling to 10th placed Ross County on Saturday (January 10).
