Arne Slot 'incensed' at 'ridiculous' Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool incident
Yesterday at 04:50 PM
Arne Slot was left furious after one moment during his Liverpool side’s clash with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, according to Rio Ferdinand.
The Premier League leaders travelled to face Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on Wednesday night, looking to avenge their only Premier League defeat of the season so far.
Things though did not start well for them, with Chris Wood continuing his excellent form this season to put the hosts 1-0 with just eight minutes on the clock.
Slot was also frustrated with referee Chris Kavanagh’s reluctance to award free-kicks during the game, with one particular incident not going down well with the Liverpool manager.
Shortly before half-time, Reds attacker Luis Diaz and Forest defender Murillo were involved in an aerial duel on the halfway line, in which the latter appeared to simply knock his opponent to the ground, without being penalised.
Providing commentary on the game on TNT Sports, Darren Fletcher described the incident by saying (8:37pm): “Diaz runs into Murillo, two South Americans…”
Steve McManaman then added while laughing: “I think you’re being kind ‘they run into each other’, I mean it was ridiculous wasn’t it.”
Fletcher responded: “Just feels like it’s getting edgy out there and he’s right at the heart of everything Murillo.”
As a replay of the collision was then showed, McManaman added: “I don’t think this is running into each other. I think that’s someone just running across and barging him out of the way.”
Fletcher then added: “I would agree, I would bow to that opinion having seen the replay. Rio (Ferdinand) is just behind the bench and he said that Arne Slot’s incensed down there”.
Arne Slot right to be frustrated as Liverpool denied free-kick at Nottingham Forest
Football Insider Verdict
Arne Slot hasn’t had much to be frustrated about when it comes to on-field matters this season, getting the better of most opponents, but you can understand him not being entirely happy here.
With his Liverpool side already losing to put some pressure on them in the title race, he would already have been one edge at this moment in time.
It also appeared as though a free-kick would have been a fair decision, with Murillo simply knocking Diaz out of the way as McManaman noted on commentary.
Indeed just moments later Forest were awarded a free-kick of their own for a similar incident, but one that appeared to have less force behind it.
That therefore will not have helped the Liverpool manager’s reaction to this situation either, further provoking a response from the Dutchman.
Slot cut an animated figure on the touchline throughout the game, highlighting his desperation for success during his first season as a Premier League manager.
