David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported that Arsenal are developing a "strong" interest in Gyokeres, with new sporting director Andrea Berta being a "firm admirer" of the 26-year-old forward.
Ornstein also suggested that the Sporting CP striker "may be more realistic than [Alexander] Isak," as Newcastle remain determined to keep hold of their star forward.
Newcastle are willing to offer Isak a record-breaking contract to secure his long-term future at St James' Park.
With a deal for Isak looking increasingly difficult, the Gunners now appear to have shifted their focus to another Swedish striker, who has been in sensational form in Portugal.
Gyokeres has been enjoying a standout campaign, scoring 42 goals and providing 11 assists in just 42 appearances, amassing 3,340 minutes of football.

Despite Arsenal's growing interest, they are not alone in the race for the prolific striker.
Football Insider revealed on 15 March that Man United remain keen on signing Gyokeres, with former Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim playing a key role in pushing for a reunion with his star forward.
However, Arsenal fans have still expressed excitement over the potential signing, urging the club to secure a deal. One supporter wrote: "Viktor Gyokeres. Pay them what they ask" while another added: "He definitely fits into the system perfectly. He is a very good fit."
