Arsenal are confident they can avoid Chelsea hijack to sign 'world class' player

Arsenal remain confident of signing one of the most sought-after players of the transfer window, according to a recent report.

Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar will be working closely on a number of deals as they look to assemble a squad capable of winning the Premier League title.

A striker is very much an area on the agenda this summer with Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres heavily linked.

Elsewhere, a left-footed defender remains a priority and they’re confident of reaching an agreement to sign one.

Arsenal confident of signing Riccardo Calafiori despite Chelsea interest

GiveMeSport ran a report on Saturday evening which noted that Arsenal remain confident of landing Italy and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori despite interest from London rivals Chelsea.

"Arsenal are frontrunners and it's likely the fee is somewhere in the region of €50million,” Jacobs said.

“It could move relatively quickly as well. Arsenal will be wary because they’ve dealt with Chelsea before with Mudryk. They also looked like frontrunners (for him) as they started all the negotiations first, and then Chelsea started a hijack.

"I think the difference, at this point, is that Arteta has apparently been very hands-on, has pitched the project, and the player is relatively sold at this stage on Arsenal.

“So, if Arsenal choose to proceed and can agree a fee with Bologna, they are relatively confident that they won’t be hijacked by Chelsea."

Riccardo Calafiori could mean Jakub Kiwior sale

If Calafiori does join The Gunners this summer, it could likely spell the end of Jakub Kiwior’s Arsenal career.

Kiwior has already been approached by Serie A giants Juventus who are keen to take the Poland international on loan.

A telling few weeks lie ahead.
