Arsenal have been linked with some exciting attacking options during the January transfer window already.

Nico Williams is Arsenal's top target this month, and Arsenal are excited by the prospect of signing Williams.

However, a move for Nico Williams isn't going to be easy given his high release clause and incredible wage demands.

Indeed, Williams has a hefty release clause and some sizeable wage demands.

Arsenal do have a few other options in mind, and according to Ben Jacobs speaking on The Done Deal Show, Villarreal's Alex Baena is a player to keep an eye on this month in regards to Arsenal potentially making a move.

Arsenal could look at Alex Baena

Jacobs shared what he knows about Baena.

The journalist says that Baena could be one to watch on the market, and that Arsenal have scouted the player.

Jacobs says that Arsenal have a formative interest in Baena that could be advanced this month.

"Yeah, Baena is kind of a left winger who can play in attacking midfield as well, he's 23 years of age and at Villarreal as well.

"There is an opportunity on the market, so that could be one to watch. I think he's contracted until 2028, so it won't be an easy deal to get done. Arsenal have certainly sent scouts to watch him. Scouting doesn't necessarily constitute firm interest, but I think Baena could be one to watch on that left side because he's right age profile and could be someone Arsenal choose to progress what is a very formative interest in."

Alex Baena compared to Nico Williams

Arsenal have their eyes on two La Liga stars in the shape of Williams and Baena.

Indeed, Jacobs said later in the show that Arsenal could end up making a late move for Williams.

"I don't think we can entirely rule out someone making a late play for Nico Williams in this window," Jacobs said.

"It's a domino effect. Because if one team triggers the release clause it might force a team like Arsenal into action, so I still think that Nico Williams is one to watch."

Both players are talented young attackers, but this season, Baena has been performing to a much higher level.

Of course, this is a small sample size, and the stats from last season tell a different story as Williams and Baena were much more similar.

Both players have what it takes to be difference makers for Arsenal, and with the Gunners needing a bit of fresh attacking impetus, Baena or Williams could be just what the doctor ordered at the Emirates.
