Arsenal are closing in on an agreement over a new contract for Ethan Nwaneri after the latest round of talks, sources have told Football Insider.

Mikel Arteta is keen to reward the 18-year-old for his progress since coming into his first-team plans, and an agreement between all parties is expected soon.

The midfielder’s current deal is set to expire in 2027 after he turned down rival interest to put pen to paper in 2023, and the Gunners are now eyeing a long-term extension.

Sources say Nwaneri is “very happy” at the club and is not looking to move on at any stage in the near future, while contract talks have been “easy”.

Fresh off the back of a goal on his England Under-21s debut, both Man City and Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on his situation.

However, he remains a long-term part of Arteta’s plans, is regarded as one of the best young players in the country, and Arsenal have no intention of seeing him leave.

Ethan Nwaneri to be rewarded for fine Arsenal form

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in January that Arsenal want Nwaneri to sign a new contract and will hold talks before the end of the season.

The winger became the youngest-ever Premier League player at the age of 15 after coming off the bench during a 3-0 win against Brentford in September 2022.

Since then, he has become the youngest-ever player to start consecutive league games for Arsenal, and their first player to score two league goals before turning 18.

This season, both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have missed significant periods with injury issues, forcing Arteta to ask his young stars to step up.

Nwaneri has made 29 appearances across all competitions this season, scored eight goals and provided one assist, and Arsenal are keen to ensure his long-term future remains at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta planning to hold Gabriel contract talks

As we approach the end of the season, Arsenal will hold talks with a number of their star players in an attempt to extend their stays in North London.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 25 March that Arsenal are planning contract talks with Gabriel Magalhaes in an attempt to deter Saudi Pro League interest.

Gabriel's current contract is set to run until 2027, but Arteta wants to secure his long-term future alongside William Saliba at the core of his defence.

This comes after industry insider Brown told Football Insider that Arsenal will reject any bids for Gabriel despite growing interest from Al-Nassr.
