Arsenal have been told to offload their defenders in order to “break the bank” on a move for Alexander Isak, according to Piers Morgan.

The Gunners suffered an early FA Cup third-round exit, losing to bitter rivals Manchester United on penalties on 12 January.

Arsenal's forwards, including Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, have faced criticism this season for a lack of goals. The calls for reinforcements have intensified after Jesus suffered another knee injury.

Morgan spoke on talkSPORT, urging the club to spend as much as £150 million to secure Isak. He said: "I would literally go right now with a barrel load of cash, drive to Newcastle and I would offer Newcastle whatever it takes.

“I don’t care 100 million, 120 million, 140 million, 150 million. and I will find the players from our 87 defenders that [Mikel] Arteta has bought in the last two years.

“I will find the players to make up the cash. And do the fair play league stuff-  we should break the bank for Alexander Isak. The way we play, the chances we create. Do you know many chances we’ve had? How many shots we had this week? 49 shots. Do you know how many goals we scored? One”.

Arsenal may be planning the big money move for Alexander Isak after all

Football Insider Verdict

It's no secret that the Gunners admire Isak. However, their interest may soon become a reality. The North London club have made the Swedish international their top summer transfer target.

Signing Isak would require a significant financial investment, but it appears they are laying the groundwork. The club are prepared to let Thomas Partey's £150,000-a-week contract run down and are also considering offers for Jesus.

Additionally, Arsenal are open to offloading Oleksandr Zinchenko to free up wages and generate more funds for their transfer plans.

Fans, including Piers Morgan, have grown increasingly frustrated this season. After the Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle on 7 January, supporters saw Isak in action and were reminded of what they're missing.

Frustrations deepened following the FA Cup exit against the Red Devils which could mean they will go five years without silverware.

One thing is clear: Arsenal's forward options are severely limited. Jesus now joins Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri on the injury list, leaving the team stretched thin. It remains to be seen whether summer plans will be accelerated to January in a bid to rescue their season.
